Local connection for troubled veterans
We met recently with a member of the Lines for Life staff from Portland. Their project, Military Helpline, runs 24/7/365 and helps veterans and family members in crisis find help. The Helpline is completely confidential and the information discussed will never be reported to the VA or the military unless the crisis is a medical emergency.
Please share this info with friends or anyone you feel might make use of it in the future.
Some vets are reluctant to seek help from the VA or, if they’re active duty, their parent command. There are countless personal and systemic reasons for this and we won’t address those here. The objective is to get help for those who need it regardless of the source of that help.
Another great resource in Oregon for more routine and less time-sensitive issues is the local county Veteran Service Officer. In Benton County, the VSO is Mary Newman. Her contact info and hours of operation are here.
