The Corvallis branch of Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom (WILPF) and Veterans For Peace Linus Pauling Chapter will host a commemoration to memorialize those lost in the 1945 attacks on innocent civilians by the United States and to suggest actions to eliminate nuclear weapons worldwide:
Wednesday, August 7, 7:00pm: Hiroshima-Nagasaki Commemoration
1st & Madison; Riverfront Park, Corvallis
We will remember the August, 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan and renew our pledge to promote peace and end war. Commemoration events include paper crane making, poetry, music and the symbolic lighting of candles. At the conclusion of the ceremony, all present are invited to walk the short distance to the Van Buren Bridge to watch as boats travel down river carrying lanterns for peace and for the remembrance of all those who lost lives in the bombings.
